Nudge — Personal Message Display
Nudge is a dedicated personal message display — a small, always-on device that shows a message from someone close, without notifications or screens. A ZÆT concept combining market research, product strategy, engineering feasibility, and industrial design.
Nudge — Personal Message Display
ZÆT Role: Market research, product strategy, engineering concept & industrial design | Internal concept
The Brief
Most communication happens on phones — which means it happens alongside everything else on phones. A message from someone you love arrives in the same place as a work email and a news alert. Nudge is a response to that: a small, dedicated physical device that sits on your desk or shelf and shows a message from one person, or a few people, as a quiet ambient presence. No app to open. No notification to dismiss. Just a message, there when you look.
ZÆT developed the Nudge concept from market research through to industrial design and engineering feasibility. The product strategy defined the use case precisely — this is not a smart display, it is a presence object — and the engineering concept resolved the key constraints: a low-power display with days of battery life, wireless connectivity for message sync, and a form that works as a domestic object on a shelf or desk.
The industrial design established the proportions, material palette, and the quality of light the display produces — an object that is pleasant to look at whether or not there is a message on it.
The Result
A fully developed personal communication device concept — market-positioned, engineered for feasibility, and designed as a domestic object. Nudge is ready for electronics development and production partner engagement.
How ZÆT was involved
Define Direction
Connected communication market analysis: how people stay close across distance and why screens feel insufficient · Product strategy: a dedicated physical device for quiet, ambient messages between people who matter · Use case definition: Nudge as a presence object — always on, always there, no notifications required · Engineering requirements: low-power display, wireless connectivity, and long battery life in a domestic object
Build the Foundation
Full concept design: a small dedicated display that shows personal messages as ambient presence · Industrial design: the object as it lives on a desk or shelf — proportions, material, and light quality · Engineering concept: e-ink or low-power display with wireless sync and days-long battery resolved in the form · Interaction design: how messages are sent, received, and displayed without requiring attention
Execute and Launch
Complete Nudge concept design and engineering concept delivered · Product positioned in the quiet communication and connected gifting market · Visual and material identity established for Nudge as a considered domestic object · A way to say you are thinking of someone — without saying anything at all
