Vero — Award-Winning Trekking Ebike
Full design, 3D modelling, component specification, and prototyping for the Vero trekking ebike, an all-round hybrid that won an industry design award in 2024.
The brief for Vero was a genuinely difficult design problem: an ebike that works equally well on urban commutes and weekend trail rides, without looking like a compromise between the two. Most bikes in this category end up being either a road bike with fatter tyres or a mountain bike with smoother ones. Vero was designed from the start to be neither — a distinct product category with its own visual language and its own clear use-case identity.
ZÆT led the full development cycle. Industrial design established the form language — a geometry and aesthetic that communicates versatility without ambiguity, with integrated rack mounts, fender mounts, and a clean motor integration that doesn't announce itself. The 3D model was developed to full production-design standard, with every component interface resolved before prototyping began. Component specification covered the complete bike — motor system, battery integration, drivetrain, brakes, lighting, and accessories — with supplier options evaluated against the design intent and the target price point.
A physical prototype was produced and used as the basis for the 2024 award application — prepared and submitted by ZÆT alongside the design documentation and product rationale.
