Huyser — Bosch Frame Redesign
A full frame redesign to move Huyser from Bafang to the Bosch ecosystem — new CAD, a 3D printed prototype shown at trade expos, and frame mold development with the manufacturing supplier.
Huyser had built a strong position in the Dutch market with Bafang-powered models distributed through 200+ bike stores. To move upmarket and access the premium dealer segment, Huyser needed to make the transition to Bosch — the drivetrain system that defines the premium tier of the European ebike market. This wasn't just a component swap. Moving from Bafang to Bosch required a complete redesign of the frame geometry, motor mounting architecture, battery integration, and display interface.
ZÆT led the full redesign process: developing new CAD for the Bosch-compatible frame, working directly with the manufacturing supplier to develop the production molds, and producing a full-scale 3D printed frame prototype used to present the new direction at trade expos before the steel molds were committed.
The 3D printed prototype gave Huyser a physical object to show dealers and at industry events — demonstrating the new frame geometry and Bosch integration before a single production frame had been made. It de-risked the tooling investment and created early market buy-in.
The Bosch-compatible frame was developed from concept through to production molds, with the new model repositioning Huyser in the premium segment of the Dutch ebike market. The 3D printed prototype successfully demonstrated the direction at trade expos, generating dealer confidence ahead of the full launch.
