ChordFirst — Learning Guitar System
ChordFirst is a chord-button guitar that teaches real chords and creates a natural pathway to a real instrument — a ZÆT concept combining music education market research, product strategy, structural engineering, and industrial design.
Most children who want to play guitar quit before they play their first song. The barrier is the same every time: forming chords with your fingers is painful, slow, and discouraging before the music starts to happen. ChordFirst removes that barrier without removing the music. Chord buttons on the neck play real chord voicings — the player strums, the chord sounds, and the song happens from the first session.
ZÆT developed the ChordFirst concept from market research through to industrial design and structural engineering. The product strategy defined the learning progression — how ChordFirst maps to real guitar skills so that graduating to a standard instrument feels natural rather than starting over. The structural engineering resolved the chord button mechanism: consistent actuation force, real musical output, and durability within a form that a child can hold and play.
The industrial design established proportions and material quality that feel like a real instrument. ChordFirst should feel like the first guitar, not like a toy guitar — because the distinction matters to whether a child picks it up again.
